WaterNSW is looking for a passionate and motivated Environmental Compliance Specialist to join the Catchment Protection team and play a pivotal role in upholding environmental regulations and safeguarding water quality and WaterNSW assets.

  • Regulatory Innovation: Develop and implement contemporary regulatory practices within the policy framework to enhance environmental outcomes.
  • Legal Liaison: Assist Legal Counsel in court matters, leading preparations for complex prosecutions to ensure swift resolution of breaches.
  • Advisory Networking: Provide expert advice on regulatory issues, maintaining a network with relevant agencies for effective compliance.
  • Risk Prioritisation: Coordinate and apply intelligence-based risk assessment to prioritize actions for protecting water quality and catchment health.
  • Proactive Approach: Identify, recommend, and implement proactive measures to address poor environmental performance across various sectors.
  • Procedure Development: Develop and maintain Rules of Evidence procedures and access consent policies in alignment with legislation.
  • Training and Education: Deliver environmental compliance training and education, offering guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Policy Enforcement: Enforce legislative policies and procedures, recommending appropriate action for breaches.

What we are looking for:  

  • Qualifications: Hold a degree in environmental science, engineering, planning, or relevant field, or possess equivalent knowledge and demonstrated experience in environmental compliance activities and pollution investigations.
  • Authorised Officer: Possess or have the ability to become one.
  • Driver's Licence: Hold a current NSW Driver's Licence.
  • Certification: Possess or have the ability to gain a Certificate IV in Government (Investigations or Statutory Compliance).
  • Knowledge: Demonstrate extensive knowledge of environmental issues related to water and wastewater, pollution, land management, and environmental planning.
  • Experience: Have a minimum of three years' experience in environmental enforcement or compliance positions, with expertise in leading and conducting investigations.
