About the business

Woodman Environmental is a botanical consultancy specialising in delivering high quality product to clients within both the private and government sectors since 1999.  We work throughout the state on both baseline and rehabilitation projects, with a large variety of clients and types of work. We have specialist in-house capability in the fields of flora and vegetation assessments, rehabilitation planning and monitoring, Geographical Information System (GIS) analysis and mapping and also environmental database development. 

Through our professional network we also manage teams of specialists to conduct multidisciplinary biological studies and complete environmental impact assessments for development projects. Our senior staff members are all respected scientists in the field of botany and ecology with a strong company capability in rehabilitation of disturbed landscapes. Our vegetation mapping programmes implement leading technology and methods in the preparation of our reports.  These include the use of a bespoke database designed to store, manipulate and export biological and environmental data and also the use of floristic analysis and other statistical methods utilising packages such as JUICE, PATN, PC Ord, and Primer.

About the role

Are you a Botanist looking to take the next step in your career, or a Senior Botanist wanting a change? Our ideal candidate will have at least 3 years' experience in a botanical field although botanists with less experience but the desire to progress their skills will also be considered.

An increase in project work has resulted in the need to increase our team. The successful candidate will be based at our offices in Ardross but will be required to travel throughout the state on a regular basis.  The successful candidate will be required to perform the following tasks, with exact duties dependent on level of experience.

  • Pre-field survey preparation including equipment management and safety documentation
  • Flora and vegetation field surveys, including supervision of junior and graduate botanists
  • Plant identifications, data entry and analysis
  • Report preparation
  • Project management

This position is a permanent full time role, with salary and conditions to be negotiated with the successful candidate based on their level of experience and skills base. Start date  can be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Skills and experience

To be suitable for this position you must:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years' experience working with the flora of Western Australia
  • possess a relevant tertiary qualification such as a Bachelor of Science
  • Possess an unrestricted drivers licence, preferably manual
  • be willing to travel throughout Western Australia, with occasional weekend work required
  • be physically capable of walking and standing for extended periods of time
  • be willing to submit to regular drug and alcohol testing as required by clients
  • be computer literate and familiar with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
