First Nations Engagement Officer

The Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales (SQNNSW) Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub is seeking a First Nations Engagement Officer to ensure that the perspectives, needs and aspirations of diverse First Nations Peoples Traditional Owner groups and custodians are incorporated into our activities.

The Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales (SQNNSW) Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub, a flagship of the multi-billion-dollar Future Drought Fund, is one of eight national Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hubs. With an investment of $10 million from the Australian Government in the University of Southern Queensland led Hub over four years, and more than $10 million contribution from Partners, the Hub will be headquartered in Toowoomba with nodes in Stanthorpe, Roma, Longreach, Lismore, Armidale, and Narrabri.

By working together, we can ensure the future growth and success of our regions and communities, in the face of the ever-present threat of drought. Connecting research expertise and on-the-ground knowledge throughout the region, the Hub will improve community resilience and be a driver of co-designed and demand-driven drought resilience research, development, extension, adoption and commercialisation. The nodes will provide a local shopfront within the community, facilitating the application of proven drought-resilience research on the ground. This approach will lead to improved innovation and adoption across agriculture, small business, industry and the community.

Join us as our First Nations Engagement Officer and ensure the needs and perspectives of First Nations groups are integrated into these activities.

By providing opportunities for collaboration around drought responses, resistance/adaptation to drought and its impact on social and emotional wellbeing, you will bring together multiple perspectives and help deliver an approach that is inclusive and sensitive to the needs of First Nations Peoples Traditional Owner groups and custodians throughout the region.

With established connections and trust within these communities (or the capacity to build them), you will facilitate information exchange between the Hub and First Nations Peoples Traditional Owner groups and custodians through engagement, consultation and collaboration – ensuring a voice for First Nations Peoples and incorporating Indigenous knowledge of drought into plans to build more resilient communities.

Applications close Sunday 23rd May, 2021.
