About the role

The position develops, manages and delivers WWF’s engagement strategy with the Queensland Gov’t, and to a lesser extent, the Federal Gov’t.  The role secures strong and robust national and state laws and policies that: support threatened species, create a low carbon future, provide sustainable food, protect marine life, and conserve nature with equity, by coordinating political engagement, developing policy positions, ensuring consistent messaging, and building internal advocacy capacity.

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Highly developed diplomacy skills, with a proven track record of applying innovative, advanced advocacy practices and working with senior political leaders/policymakers, to achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Expert knowledge of parliamentary and government processes.
  • Advanced understanding of the Australian environmental conservation context including current national issues, policies and legislation.
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal, negotiation, conflict resolution and issues management skills within the context of complex multi-stakeholder environments.
  • An ability to act in a non-politically partisan manner in a politically-charged context.
  • Strong relevant networks in government and NGOs.
  • An ability to work autonomously and constructively across a flexible team based environment.

A knowledge of environmental conservation issues concerning land clearing in Queensland and tertiary qualifications in agriculture, conservation science, economics, law etc or similar industry experience will be well regarded.
