Research Project Officer

As the Research Project Officer, your primary responsibilities will be to support the current Collaborative and Indigenous Science project team to achieve key project milestones, produce high quality outputs, and improve efficacy of team actions. These responsibilities will lead to recognised scientific achievements as well as the advancement of Indigenous and collaborative knowledge protocols for national and global use. You will undertake systematic review work in the field of transdisciplinary environmental research. 

Your duties will include

  • Support the development and completion of a range of sustainability (e.g. management of water, climate, biodiversity, wetlands, catchments, reefs etc.) projects with Indigenous people.
  • Support the use of participatory methods to show and share Indigenous knowledge and western science, while testing outcomes for fostering Indigenous-led and co-developed research.
  • Use software packages and digital visualization methods to support communication, participation and analysis including through:
    • Participatory GIS;
    • 3D mapping and image processing for 3D projection;
    • Video capture and editing;
    • Bibliographic data bases;
    • Online Collaboration Tools;
    • Qualitative and quantitative data analysis;
    • Graphic-Design;
    • Microsoft Office suite; and
    • Other packages and methods as required.
  • Communicate effectively, fostering trust and respect, with Traditional Owners.

Salary:           AU$82K – AU$93K + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or relevant work experience in environmental/sustainability (e.g. management of water, climate, biodiversity, wetlands, catchments, reefs) science, including an understanding of the science and practice of working across scientific, Indigenous and local knowledge systems.
  • Demonstrated high-level oral and written communication skills with a range of scientific and other audiences
  • High-level technical skills undertake some or all of the following activities and applications:
    • Qualitative and quantitative data analysis
    • Literature reviews, including use of bibliographic data bases for systematic reviews
    • Participatory methods, such as participatory Geographic Information Systems (GIS), for engaging a range of stakeholders, particularly Traditional Owners
    • Production of diverse communication materials and methods (e.g. video capture and editing, graphic design, online collaboration tools, image processing for 3D projection, Microsoft Office suite).
  • Demonstrated successful experience building trust and respect with Traditional Owner Groups in Australia.
  • Experience in driving on-road in remote and/or regional locations.
