About us

We are growing our team and are now seeking a new WHS Manager to grow our safety programs! You will be responsible for overseeing and implementing effective workplace health and safety practices across our operations.

SA Mushrooms is a proudly family-owned and operated farm established in 1998 with over 130 employees. We are a primary supplier of mushrooms to major supermarkets and green grocers, and pride ourselves in strong familial and cultural values of hard work, honesty, innovation, and pride that drives our production to be the freshest and highest quality.

This is a key leadership position that requires a strong understanding of WHS legislation, excellent communication skills, and the ability to drive a positive safety culture within the organisation.

Qualifications & experience

• A bachelor’s degree in human resources is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current HR and IR legislative requirements and ability to interpret Awards and relevant legislation.
• Demonstrated experience in end-to-end recruitment, including developing strategies for engaging talent.
• Experience leading an HR Team and developing and coaching others to success.
• Have excellent English skills.
• Excellent written and spoken communication and interpersonal skills and an engaging, supportive, and solutions-focused attitude.
• Demonstrated mid-high-level capabilities in the Microsoft Office suite of products and Human Resource software systems. We utilise Employment Hero and Wageloch.
• Bring genuine experience using best practice HR processes that favourably promote the company brand in compliance with policy and legislative requirements.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and flexibility to work onsite. (This is not a work from home role)

Tasks & responsibilities

• Develop and implement WHS policies and procedures in line with relevant legislation and industry best practices.
• Conduct regular audits, risk assessments and inspections to identify hazards and potential risks in the workplace.
• Advise and guide management on WHS issues, providing recommendations for improvements and ensuring 100% compliance.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
• Deliver WHS training programs to employees and supervisors to promote awareness and understanding.
• Manage and maintain WHS documentation, including incident reports, training records, and safety manuals.
• Stay up to date with changes in WHS legislation and industry trends, ensuring compliance and proactively addressing emerging risks.
• Foster a positive safety culture by promoting safe work practices, providing guidance and support, and recognising and rewarding good safety performance.

Requirements

• Tertiary Qualification in WHS or a related field.
• Proven experience as a WHS Manager or in a similar role.
• In depth knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, and standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated experience in incident investigation and implementing corrective actions.
• Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize tasks.
• Previous experience in the agricultural or food production industry is a plus.
