Spanish Company Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has been given the green light to develop the country’s largest photovoltaic solar plant in the ACT.

FRV will construct the 20MW PV plant following the success in the reverse Feed in Tariff solar auction conducted by the Territory Government.

The plant will comprise 83,000 PV panels and will generate enough electricity to supply an estimated 4,500 Canberra homes.

The plant will be built at Royalla, 23 kilometres south of the Canberra CBD as part of the ACT Government’s sustainable energy policy.

Construction of the plant is due to begin in 2013, with an estimated completion date of 2014, subject to environmental assessment and approval of by the ACT, with Federal approval already been granted.

“I would like to thank the Australian Capital Territory Government for supporting this project, which represents an important step in our long-term commitment in Australia,” Country Manager of FRV Australia Andrea Fontana said.

“FRV brings a high level of unique know how and expertise to the Australian market with a proven global track record of developing, constructing and delivering large scale solar power projects.
