South Australians can now recycle their bread bags, biscuit packets, rice and lolly bags after Coles rolled an Australia-first recycling program at 42 supermarkets around metropolitan Adelaide.

The State Government has pledged $50,000 to the scheme which gives shoppers the option of collecting and recycling their soft plastics, including their newspaper wrap, past and frozen vegetable packets.

The plastics can be taken to participating Coles outlets which will then be then recycled into furniture for kindergartens and schools, keeping it out of landfill.

“I am certain South Australians will embrace this opportunity to do more for the environment, we know that the majority of South Australians are keen to recycle wherever they can,”  State Environment Minister Ian Hunter said.
