The Queensland Government has nominated Ingenero its preferred bidder in the tender for the $6.76 million Cloncurry Solar Farm.

The farm is expected to generate 2.128 megawatts of power will comprise 7,600 polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic panels mounted on multiple rows.

“These panels will generate approximately 3,700 megawatt hours of electricity per year which is enough to power approximately 500 households,” Energy Minister Stephen Robertson said.

“Construction of the solar farm is scheduled to begin in July 2012 subject to Ingenero receiving development approvals and concluding contractual and land lease arrangements, plus network connection and power purchase agreements.

“Weather permitting, the Cloncurry Solar farm should be completed in October 2012.”

The electricity generated will feed into the Mount Isa/Cloncurry electricity network and will offset approximately 76,770 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in its lifetime.
