Nominations for the Prime Minister’s Environmentalist of the Year and Young Environmentalist of the Year are now open.

Federal Environment Minister, Tony Burke, has called on members of the community to nominate individuals who have made ‘an outstanding contribution in protecting our environment’.

Mr Burke said that any individual, group or organisation who have been working to protect the environment can be nominated.

“I encourage anyone who knows people who go over and above to protect our environment to nominate them,” Mr Burke said.

Nominations are now open for the following awards:

  • The Prime Minister’s Environmentalist of the Year award: open to any Australian individual, group or organisation for a project undertaken within Australia, which has made a significant contribution towards the environment.
  • The Young Environmentalist of the Year Award: open to any Australian individual under the age of 25 for a project undertaken within Australia which has made a significant contribution towards the environment.

Nominations close on 22 April 2013 and the awards will be announced as part of World Environment Day celebrations in June 2013.
