The Queensland Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection Andrew Powell has announced an overhaul of the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP), with 220 job losses announced in the State budget.

Mr Powell said review had be undertaken of what services would be delivered by the EHP, providing  a renewed focus on key frontline environmental regulatory activities.

“My Department will be strongly focussing our attention on working with industry to help streamline the bureaucratic processes that strangle industry in red tape.

“The streamlining of cumbersome processes will free up Departmental resources, which can then be redirected to frontline compliance and enforcement activities to ensure the ongoing protection of Queensland’s environment.

“The cost saving program being implemented throughout the Department will protect key regulatory, compliance and response services.
