The Queensland Minister for the Environment Kate Jones has announced the final damage cost for the state’s parks, saying that over $20 million will be required to repair Queensland’s parks and forests.

Ms Jones told a parliament hearing that flooding and Cyclone Yasi caused the closure of half of the state’s  parks earlier in the year, but said that over 100 parks had reopened thanks to the state’s rangers.

Ms Jones lauded the work of the state’s local rangers, saying "I commend the rangers for this important work, which is not only benefiting locals, but crucial to helping getting our tourism industry back on track”.
