About the Role 

This Research Fellow will conduct research inspired by real world challenges involving the development of next-generation heating and cooling systems and potential flexible demand of air conditioning in buildings. The position will undertake research activities against the project titled Business Power Flex: Business customer solutions to minimum demands funded via a Project Agreement with RACE for 2023 CRC.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Conduct high-quality research independently or under limited supervision and in collaboration with industry and other stakeholders
  • Design, perform and record experimental work, including testing and evaluation of prototype space heating and cooling systems
  • Investigation of flexible demand from air conditioning in buildings
  • Independently or under limited supervision, communicate research outcomes in both verbal and written form including presentations and reports to the research team
  • Ensure delivery of project’s research milestones, objectives and work programs are met on time, within budget and to the industry partner’s satisfaction
  • Develop a record of independent research that results in high-quality publications

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • A PhD qualification in a mechanical engineering or relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated research productivity as a postdoctoral researcher, with experience relevant to at least one research strand
  • Demonstrated experience with modelling, designing, testing and evaluating thermal systems
  • Evidence of participation in external activities such as industry or community engagement relevant to the field of research
  • Record of independent research resulting in high-quality publications and evidence of growing citation impact
