Are you a motivated research technician with experience in synthetic chemistry? CSIRO Energy business unit currently has an exciting role with our team in Kensington (WA), and it could be the perfect next opportunity for you!

Reducing emissions is currently a key topic & challenge in Australia and globally. In reaching the net zero targets, direct air capture is an emerging solution for carbon dioxide removal, and our talented scientists at CSIRO are working hard on a range of these direct air capture technologies. Collaborating with this multi-disciplinary team of scientists, you will support a portfolio of commercial projects, and have a key hands-on role in synthesising and testing new materials, with a focus on materials for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture. You will also be responsible for developing new characterisation techniques and conducting HSE analysis, with the goal of developing these technologies to pilot scale and beyond.

Your duties will include:

• Synthesising new materials for carbon capture and working with the project team to design these materials and methodologies to access materials.
• Performing HSE analysis of synthetic methodologies to select the correct practices to carry out the synthesis safely, and in doing so, adhere to CSIRO HSE policies.
• Assisting in designing and performing straightforward experiments and routine laboratory analyses, designing new processes or apparatus by adapting existing techniques and components to meet special circumstances or undertaking modifications to methods requiring some innovation.
• Designing data recording and entry systems.
• Performing some non-routine analyses or technology development activities, using a range of techniques, often working on a number of parallel and competing tasks.

Salary: AU$68K – AU$86K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

• A relevant trade certificate/diploma/bachelor’s degree, or equivalent relevant work experience, in chemistry or material synthesis.
• Demonstrated fundamental understanding of chemistry.
• Demonstrated experience with chemical synthesis.
• Proven technical skills in material analysis in order to test the developed materials.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Teams).
