Job description:

  • Located at Dubbo's iconic Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Wiradjuri Country
  • Full time, ongoing position - due to begin early July 2024
  • TCSA Salaried Employees Award, Clerk Grade 3/ 4, annual package starting from $88,785 (includes base salary starting from $79,032 + 11% superannuation)

About the Role…

This role is critical to achieving Taronga's Strategic Priority of Environmental Leadership. The primary purpose of the role is to contribute to the delivery of Taronga's Sustainability Strategy and ensuring it operates with minimal environmental impact, promotes the sustainable use of resources and complies with relevant State and Federal Environmental Legislation. The Environmental Sustainability Officer will help identify and implement solutions which reduce water, waste and carbon use across the organisation.

Key Accountabilities…

  • Drive delivery of Taronga's 2021-2025 Sustainability Strategy and Strategic Plan Objectives under the core priority of Environmental Leadership.
  • Work with diverse internal and external stakeholders to identify and implement solutions which reduce resource use, maximise efficiency, and promote behavioural change.
  • Liaise with external service providers for smooth and timely delivery of environmental services.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including contractors / consultants, service providers and industry partners) to coordinate delivery of strategic projects
  • Analyse data, generate reports and communicate sustainability monitoring information (such as waste, emissions or water data) to managers, steering committees and other stakeholders
  • Staff engagement and relationship-building to help support staff to integrate sustainability into business divisions.
  • Seek new opportunities for continual improvement in sustainability such as enhanced data collection, greater recycling or improved purchasing; and research funding opportunities and support grant applications

About You…

We are looking for candidates that have:

  • Tertiary qualification preferably in sustainability, environmental management, resource management or a related field
  • Knowledge of key sustainability and environmental management concepts, for example landfill diversion strategies, water management, sustainable procurement, and greenhouse gas accounting and management
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating projects within timeframes and with multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management and collaboration experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Hold a current NSW Drivers License or ability to have existing license formally recognised.
  • Obtain and maintain a current NSW Working with Children Check.
