As Principal Urban Planner you bring expertise in urban design and strategic planning to guide and review a range of major State Government projects (Big Housing and Infrastructure Builds) within the municipality.
You will advocate for and positively influence built form and public realm outcomes from significant projects to achieve alignment with best practice and the City of Stonnington objectives and Plans. With a key understanding of housing, activity centre and transport/infrastructure planning, you will also apply their expertise and imbed sound urban design principles within cross-organisation projects and the development of strategies and frameworks in the pursuit of sustainable, inclusive, resilient and well designed growth.
You will also contribute to the development of a diverse range of projects, embedding high quality urban design and public realm outcomes. You will also Imbed a culture of design thought leadership and design language within the team and broader organisation by developing collaborative relationships and maintaining a clear focus on design quality and community benefit.
This is a temporary part time position of 3 days per week for 12 months with an annual salary range of $105,785 - $117,494 (pro rata for part time) + 11.5% super. Exact days are flexible and the 3 days or 22.8 hours can also be spread across more days such as within school hours.
You are based within our bright, modern and sustainable 311 Glenferrie Road office on the corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road in Malvern where boutique stores, cafes and health clubs are in abundance. From the office you can easily walk to Malvern Gardens, High Street Armadale or Glenferrie Road. Malvern and Armadale Train Station are a short walk away and tram stops are out the front of the building.

Desired Skills and Experience
Knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and the Stonnington Planning Scheme
Bring expertise in urban design and strategic planning
Have key understanding of housing, activity centre and transport/infrastructure planning
Have strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
Well-developed strategic thinking, analytical, consultation, project, contract, and communication skills
Ability to facilitate to problem resolution, enhance rigour and innovation in project delivery
A growth mindset, optimising professional development opportunities to expand knowledge and mentor colleagues
Tertiary qualification in urban design, strategic planning, architecture, landscape architecture or related field, together with demonstrated experience in one or more of these fields.
