You will play a pivotal role in leading the provision of on-ground specialist advice to Project Directors, Managers and Site Delivery Managers, including the effective management, implementation and adherence to environmental work plans and permit conditions, including legislative compliance and the management of environmental risk.
Additionally, you will provide direction in environmental audit and assurance activities, identifying areas for improvement and implementing effective solutions to improve environmental performance, ultimately fostering a high-performance Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) culture.
You will demonstrate extensive knowledge of and ability to advise on strategies to appropriately manage environmental and sustainability issues which arise during planning, design and construction phases of infrastructure projects and maintenance of linear infrastructure projects.
You will bring extensive knowledge of environmental legislation with the ability to review and interpret policies, procedures and statutory requirements and how they apply to construction and maintenance of infrastructure. A key part of your role will also include providing strategic input and assistance into federal EPBC and state environmental approvals.
As a natural problem solver, you’ll enjoy dealing with complex environmental issues and regulatory requirements on large scale construction activities and maintenance of linear infrastructure, applying a risk management methodology to solving these issues.
What you’ll bring

Degree level qualifications in Environmental Management or Science, Planning or Engineering
With proven leadership experience, you are comfortable working at both the strategic and operational levels, rolling your sleeves up to do what is required to ensure your team’s actions translate into delivery.
We’d also love you to have:
- Demonstrated experience with obtaining environmental approvals, and setting up successful delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects
- Extensive experience supporting and adapting environmental management systems integral to the development and operation of large-scale infrastructure assets
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical support and advice, as well as educate and coach Project Managers, Designers, contractors and other internal and external stakeholders on a wide range of environmental matters, including vegetation clearing and access tracks.
- Extensive experience influencing the environmental performance of contractors working in multiple areas across a region.
- Extensive knowledge of environmental legislation and ability to navigate, interpret and pragmatically apply policies, procedures and statutory requirements for infrastructure delivery projects.
- Considerable stakeholder engagement experience, with ability to work in a diverse workforce with multiple stakeholders, including unions and Government; demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and to work collaboratively with relevant parties towards mutually beneficial relations.
- Experience in an environment role within the Construction and/or Electricity Industries
