Barenbrug Australia, one of Australia’s largest seed companies and a member of the Royal Barenbrug Group, has a commitment to exceeding the expectations of its employees, its customers and industry partners.  An integral component of our strategy has been our emphasis on research and development.  At our northern research sites, we undertake a wide range of activities including breeding, variety evaluation, seed production and agronomic extension.

We are looking to employ a highly motivated, proactive and enthusiastic Research Assistant to join our research team.  This is an important role, working alongside our Research Agronomist and Northern Breeding Manager to successfully implement and manage our research & breeding program.

In this role, you will undertake the day to day tasks associated with the operation of the research programs.  Key activities will include, but not be limited to:

  • trial plot spraying, sowing, harvesting, seed cleaning/treatment, tractor work, irrigation and other operational activities;
  • data collection & trial management, as directed by the Agronomist or Plant Breeder, completed to the highest quality standards and reporting protocols;  general tasks associated with maintaining the Research facility and equipment to high standards.

The role is based from our Toowoomba office, however most work will occur on our research sites in the Toowoomba vicinity. The role will report to the Research Agronomist. Occasional overnight travel will be required during the year.

You will have a can-do approach, be hard working, have a demonstrated understanding of agricultural practices and experience with operating farm machinery. You will enjoy working autonomously, have a high attention to detail and accuracy in reporting , and be proficient with using computers for data entry.

Tertiary qualifications in agriculture science or equivalent is desirable, but not essential. You must have the right to work in Australia. The ability to travel between sites is important so a current driver’s licence is required to perform your role.
