Environmental Manager - Southern Region (Port Melbourne)

Based in Port Melbourne and reporting to the Regional HSE Manager – Southern Region, we are looking for an experienced Regional Environmental Manager, whose primary focus will be providing advice and guidance to operational management on environmental issues related to air, water, noise, land flora/fauna and community engagement in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. In addition, the role will help develop and implement strategies to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and alignment with regional and national initiatives. 

Key duties:

  • Facilitate the integration of environmental compliance across Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia and provide specialist technical advice to the business and other HSE resources throughout the region;
  • Assist in the reporting, investigation and management of environmental incidents and complaints in accordance with Company procedures;
  • Assist with the development, planning and preparation of the Business Units’ Environmental Action Plans including the setting of targets and specific projects to meet targets;
  • Manage the implementation of environmental actions plans;
  • Provide periodic environmental reports to the Regional HSE Manager;
  • Coordinate and conduct environmental compliance audits across the region ensuring that corrective/preventative actions are effectively tracked to ensure close out;
  • Facilitate environmental incident reporting/investigation and corrective action close out;
  • Liaise with specific government authorities and representatives and develop relationships with regulators to ensure Boral continues to achieve and maintain environmental compliance with regard to statutory requirements;
  • Provide support to operations to ensure environmental monitoring requirements are met.

 Must haves:

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or other relevant degree;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a senior environmental role;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and to engage with and present information in formal settings;
  • Demonstrated experience managing the compliance of environmental enforcement;
  • A strong understanding and experience of working with regulators;
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines;
  • Previous experience in the construction or mining industry;
  • Demonstrated experience participating in legal proceedings is desirable;
  • Victorian Drivers licence.
