Centre for Water in the Minerals Industry (CWiMI)

The Centre for Water in the Minerals Industry supports the sustainable management of water in the minerals sector. The team contributes to solving the engineering, environmental and social challenges of water management and engages with a wide range of research organisations and stakeholders in Australia and internationally. The Centre’s research is funded principally by selected mining companies who are committed to sustainability performance.

About This Opportunity

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will focus their efforts on developing their expertise and emerging research profile in their discipline. At this level, the incumbent will be supported and guided by more senior academic staff with the expectation of an increasing degree of autonomy over time. The role will contribute to characterising soil chemical and physical properties, quantification and modelling water and solute transport in soil and soil like materials (e.g., mine waste, tailings and waste rocks) and conducting field and laboratory experiments.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the field of Soil Science to support a range of research projects undertaken by the Centre for Water in the Minerals Industry (CWiMI). The role will contribute to characterising soil chemical and physical properties, quantification and modelling water and solute transport in soil and soil like materials (e.g., mine waste, tailings, and waste rocks), and conducting field and laboratory experiments. The role will also contribute to the standard daily requirements of research activities such as database management, communicating with clients, the delivery of written reports, presentations to clients and the preparation of scientific papers. The successful candidate should have a willingness to travel and a good level of physical fitness.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time fixed term position, initially for up to 12 months at Academic Level A.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be $70,729 $88,412 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be $82,754 - $103,442.
