About this Opportunity
The Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP) is the largest, most comprehensive program of its type in the world, a collaboration of leading experts in reef ecology, water and land management, engineering, innovation, and social sciences. The program draws on the full breadth of Australian expertise and that from around the world and aims to strike a balance between minimising risk and maximising opportunity to save Reef species and values from the impacts of climate change.

After completing the world's most rigorous and comprehensive investigation into medium and large-scale reef intervention in 2019, RRAP is now is embarking on a long-term R&D program to develop, test and risk-assess novel interventions to help keep the Reef resilient and sustain critical functions and values.

An opportunity exists with AIMS to lead and conduct high quality research to develop and implement integrated coral reef research, with a special focus on reef health, reef dynamics, and natural recovery and adaptation processes.
In this role you will contribute to the design and implementation of field and laboratory research across key areas including coral demography and traits, coral adaptation to climate change, quantitative population models, and spatial ecology. You will also be responsible for conducting high quality processing and statistical analysis of complex spatial and temporal data-sets, and will develop evolutionary and ecological models to describe statistical findings.

You will also play a leading role in the internal and external communication of the projects key research and will present scientific findings through the production of scientific reports, papers, and presentations. You will have a high level of autonomy and will also collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team, which may include the supervision of students and volunteers.

About You
Underpinning your suitability for this opportunity will be your PhD qualification in a relevant discipline, preferably in marine ecology, and will be able to demonstrate your:

• Sound knowledge and expertise in coral population dynamics, coral traits and demography, and evolutionary ecology;
• Experimental design and analysis experience, both in the field and the laboratory, in quantitative ecology and evolution; and
• Proficiency and experience in project management and organisation of field work in remote locations.

Non-Australian Citizens must hold an appropriate Australian Visa with working entitlements that allows paid employment with AIMS for the term of the appointment.
