About the branch

The Melbourne Division is responsible for the delivery of on-ground works and services that conserve environments, protect culture and heritage, manage visitor facilities and improve opportunities and support fire and emergency management. The Divisional resources will support environmental, social and economic outcomes for Melbourne communities.

Melbourne Division consists of a diverse range of Local Ports, waterways, parks and reserves. Staff working within the Division are responsible for providing efficient and effective implementation of a broad range of often complex park management functions including natural, cultural and built asset management, visitor management and services, local port and waterway management, commercial management, community engagement, stakeholder management and emergency response.

About the role and your responsibilities:

As the Area Chief Ranger, you will be responsible for all aspects of operations and resources within their geographic area of control in order to deliver cost effective, timely, quality and appropriate range of services to meet the requirements of the District Action Plan. In this role, you will contribute and assist in the development, implementation and review of District Operations to enable Parks Victoria to match service delivery with community and stakeholder needs to ensure optimum performance from the Area’s human, financial and capital resources.

You will represent Parks Victoria to community, industry, and government groups to ensure a positive, professional image of Parks Victoria and effective working relationships with all key stakeholders by assisting the District Manager to manage Parks Victoria’s reputation within local area. You must have clear and concise communication across the business and geographic area objectives to Team Leaders so that they remain well informed of business activity and of their required contribution to targets. You will support the Team Leaders to develop an effective network of communication across the geographic area to ensure knowledge of business activity is shared and understood.

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Science, Business and/or equivalent experience in a similar field.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of a high use urban park, including but not limited to, active and passive recreation, sports grounds, events spaces, and asset management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills demonstrated across a diverse and complex internal and external stakeholder group.
  • A current employee Working with Children Check
