Position Details

RESEARCH SCIENTIST

  • $84,019 – $95,329 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed term, 3 years
  • Usual Work Hours: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Tatura (flexibility may be available)

This position in spatial information is part of a leading research team making vital contributions to improving productivity through smart agriculture innovation systems. The team creates and applies innovative technologies and practices helping the dairy, grains, horticulture, and red meat industries, and Victoria's landscapes and regions.

In the position of Research Scientist, you will deliver the underpinning scientific and technical ability in the development and implementation of measurement and sensing technologies.

This role requires strong interest in research, research technology and utilising applications of field and remote sensing and measurement devices.

As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate–

  • an appropriate degree and experience in Information/Agricultural Sciences, Science, or an equivalent science qualification;
  • strong skills in web and cloud based programming languages such as JavaScript and/or Python and expertise in developing and deploying software systems to support research
  • ability to plan, initiate and conduct research in the innovative application of spatial and remotely sensed information in agriculture resource management;
  • experience with:
    • contemporary in-field, airborne and satellite-based measurement tools, and practises;
    • generating, collecting, storing, retrieving, analysing, and visualising aspatial and spatial data and information;
    • strong skills in web and cloud based programming with JavaScript and/or Python
    • ability to work in, lead, train and in collaboration with research teams designing new approaches, and application of new technologies to national leading agriculture research is essential

As part of the Machinery of Government changes announced by the Premier of Victoria, from 1 Jan 2019 DEDJTR transitioned into the Department of Transport (DoT) & the Department of Jobs, Precincts & Regions (DJPR).

The position of Research Scientist is part of the Agriculture Victoria Research Branch's Agriculture Resources Sciences Unit within the Agriculture Victoria Research Group in the (Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR).

Agriculture Victoria works with industry and community stakeholders to support the agriculture, food and fibre sector to become more globally competitive, innovative and resilient.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Records Check prior to commencing employment with the Department.
