RESEARCH SCIENTIST

  • $81,354 – $92,304 (Plus Superannuation)

Working on the DairyFeedbase program, your focus will be research projects aiming to improve the profitability of pasture based dairy systems. This is achieved through innovative research and science excellence, supported by technical efficiency, business processes, technology adoption and knowledge management. You will also contribute to other associated dairy research projects and activities. The role also involves assisting in reporting on the research being undertaken and preparing scientific publications and other written reports.

For appointment to this position, you will demonstrate –

  • a degree in Agricultural Science, Science or equivalent science qualification, with post-graduate qualifications in agronomy or grazing ecology;
  • knowledge of the principles and operation of ruminant production systems, with knowledge of dairy production systems;
  • research experience in implementation of sensor technologies for pasture measurements and interpretation of generated information;
  • experience of effective participation in and leadership of research project teams, of working with minimal supervision and displaying high levels of initiative;
  • well-developed communication skills to facilitate the establishment of relationships with peers and stakeholders, a track record of publication of scientific work in science journals and at science conferences, and the capacity to present results of research to a range of audiences;
  • familiarity with leadership and supervisory capability relevant to technical staff, with experience in postgraduate supervision an advantage.

The position of Research Scientist is part of the Agriculture Victoria Research Division’s Animal Production Sciences Branch in the Employment, Investment and Trade Group.
