The Position… will lead the Open Space Planning Team in the delivery of open space and green infrastructure planning services to City of Melbourne. As a key member of the City’s Urban Sustainability Branch Leadership team, the position also contributes to the strategic direction of the branch.

 

The team undertakes strategic planning and management of our green open spaces to provide multiple community services and environmental outcomes. These include enhancing urban ecosystems for community health and wellbeing, planning and nurturing a quality open space network that encourages participation, and enabling the implementation of green infrastructure.

 

The ideal candidate will have a background in a similar role or related field, strong leadership experience especially in team development, and excellent project management skills.

 

You will have… (selection criteria)

 

  • A tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline
  • Substantial experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and usefully interpret the urban environment and landscapes
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive and develop imaginative, contextually responsive and technically advanced open space planning policy and strategy, including master plan development
  • Ability to recognise and pursue open space and green infrastructure planning objectives through specific projects
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage complex projects and tasks, and to implement projects on time and to budget
  • Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team and build skills and capability in other team members
  • Ability to act as an advocate for the City of Melbourne
  • Ability to plan and manage  community engagement  processes
  • Evidence of strong team leadership and people management skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team development
  • Excellent written skills and strong oral communication including presentation and negotiation skills and the ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Proven ability to build and maintain productive, collaborative networks and partnerships and to navigate effectively through political complexities with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
