Sugar Research Australia (SRA) is an industry owned company and invests in and manages a portfolio of research, development and adoption (RD&A) programmes/projects that drive productivity, profitability and sustainability for the Australian sugarcane industry.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, as Executive Manager – Technology you will be responsible for providing the intellectual leadership for SRA’s research, development and adoption activities and will lead a team of talented staff who are committed to delivering valued solutions for a growing Australian sugar industry. This will involve managing multi-disciplinary teams across plant breeding, soil health and nutrient management, farming systems and production, pest, disease and weed management, milling efficiency and technology, and knowledge transfer and adoption to collectively achieve SRA’s objectives. Additionally, you must ensure the prudent financial management of the company’s investment revenue and embed a culture of teamwork, safety, accountability / commercial focus and investor satisfaction across the group.

About the Person

To be considered for this pivotal appointment you will be recognised internationally by your peers as a scientific leader in one or more of the following disciplines: plant physiology, pathology, agronomy, plant breeding / genetics or entomology.

You will have previous executive experience in developing and managing a portfolio of R&D in a research entity or a commercial biotechnology company. The ability to contribute to business strategy and be an exceptional communicator are essential skills for this position.  A PhD is required and specific experience within a sugarcane industry will be highly regarded.
