About the opportunity

Provide high-level administrative, operational and management support to the Australian Research Council (ARC) Hub for Advanced Technologies for Iron Ore (the Hub), and its associated activities, including the day-to-day management of business, projects and partnerships. 

The Hub is a unit of the School of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, and a research Centre of the University's Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER). The Hub draws on three internationally recognised areas of research strength – beneficiation, raw materials handling and iron ore characterisation. The Hub will engage with mining and mining services companies to unlock future value, grow markets and develop innovative technologies for the sector.

It is expected that the Hub will continue to be funded for another three years. This opportunity is offered as a full-time, 24 month fixed term contract with the potential for a further fixed term contract depending on performance and funding availability.

Skills and experience

  • Provide strategic planning, performance monitoring and compliance support by developing, implementing and evaluating the Centre's strategic management and business planning;
  • Use your high-level executive support and advice to support the Hub Director;
  • Establish and promote relationships with sponsoring organisations and enhance existing collaborations; and
  • In collaboration with the Hub Director, develop strategic partnerships with external organisations and assist with the preparation of research funding proposals.

To be successful, you will have

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training;
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic and business planning and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and quality assurance activities;
  • Knowledge of and experience in establishing, managing and maintaining strategic partnerships with external stakeholders particularly those relevant to the Hub's focus (e.g. government, resources sector and industry);
  • Excellent facilitation, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite; and
  • Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.

It is advantageous to have

  • Capability in web site development;
  • Experience in the University finance, travel and research services systems;
  • Experience with University Research services systems; and
  • Experience in engaging with industry, especially in the resources sector.
