Water Resources Engineer

We are NSW’s bulk water supplier, river operator and your one-stop shop for licensing, water trades and water information.  We supply two thirds of water used in NSW from our 42 dams, rivers and pipelines to regional towns, irrigators, Sydney Water, and local water utilities. We also own and operate the largest surface and groundwater monitoring network in the southern hemisphere and build, maintain and operate essential infrastructure.

This Water Resources Engineer position will see you develop and apply advanced analytical, computational, and experimental methods to study water in natural and engineered systems, for planning and operations.

This role is for a 2-year term due to commence in January 2023 within the Water Quality Modelling Team. This team is delivering a critical capital modelling project for WaterNSW and works collaboratively across the business to develop a Decisions Support Tool for Strategy and Operations. The team uses agile project management to drive the development of the models and systems.

  • Provide technical input relating to hydrologic, hydraulic components and water quality interactions of multi-disciplinary projects in a team environment to assist in meeting regulatory and business requirements.
  • Project management support to deliver key projects for the business and ensure that best practice project management is applied throughout the life of the project.
  • Undertake the development, maintenance and application of a strategic suite of ‘water’ models for water quality and quantity
  • Take on a broad range of water resource engineering activities for internal and external customers, including for planning, water delivery, flood and emergency operations and capital projects
  • Ensure models and reliable forecasts are available, and that support is provided for operations during events and incidents
  • Guarantee models are accessible and provide reliable advice for our customers to protect our catchment health, provide clean water and protect our ecosystems.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil (or Environmental) Engineering
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence
  • Exceptional communication skills and experience with stakeholder management
  • Demonstrated experience at a senior level in hydrologic/hydraulic data analysis, modelling, and reporting
  • Registered (or ability to be registered) as a Certified Engineer in water resources engineering
