Ecologist - Team Leader

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced ecologist to join us as a full-time team leader within our ecology team.

About the role:

Based out of either our Kariong or Beresfield office, you will have the opportunity to deliver innovative solutions for our clients.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Providing technical ecological advice and report deliverables on a range of projects, primarily on the east coast of NSW.
  • Supporting the senior management with ecological team development. 
  • Involvement in business development and work proposals. 
  • Proactively managing projects or components of projects, quality assurance and development of client relationships. 

Your duties will include:

  • Day to day team coordination.
  • Botanical or fauna survey using accepted industry methodologies to identify species, populations and / or vegetation communities.
  • Assisting in the preparation of biodiversity assessments (ecological assessments, BDAR, BCAR and associated applications)
  • Preparation of stewardship site assessments (feasibility study, BSSAR, BSMP, TFD and associated applications)
  • Accurately identifying threatened flora and undertake competent EEC classification under the BC Act and EPBC Act.
  • Preparing ecological assessments in accordance with the EP&A Act, the BC Act and the EPBC Act.
  • Competently preparing vegetation / bushland management plans and assisting with preparation of a variety of environmental reports and assessments.
  • Assisting in the preparation of court related documents to be utilised by Principal Ecologists (expert witness)

About you:

You are an experienced ecologist who is driven by understanding and high-level identification skills, good threatened species habitat knowledge and can accurately assess the presence of endangered ecological communities.

You are a collaborator, someone who cares about building a team and encouraging growth for each team member.  You leave the drama at the door, and you have excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, as you will liaise with team members from different disciplines, clients and government agencies to ensure delivery of innovative solutions that meet client and broader community expectations. 

You are a self-starter, someone who initiates new assignments and challenges. You have a desire to succeed, go above and beyond, and demonstrate adaptability/flexibility. There are only challenges to be solved and you are willing to muck in. You have a strong client focus and a knack for building and maintaining credible working relationships.

You will ideally:

  • Hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Zoology, Botany or other relevant degree, ideally coupled with 5+ years’ experience in a similar role. 
  • Have extensive relevant post-graduate experience, including supervising aspects of projects, applying standards and managing resources. 
  • Have experience leading, mentoring and developing ecologists and providing technical support. 
  • Hold NSW BAM Accreditation and be willing to maintain this important accreditation (highly regarded).
  • Show a high level of attention to detail.
  • Be a proactive problem solver.
  • Have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and privacy.
  • Possess high level competencies with the MS Office suite.
  • Have flexibility around geographic locations of work as some travel and some overnight stays may be required.
  • Be highly organised to plan and manage projects.
