About the role

Working as a member of the Healthy Land and Seascapes team, this newly created role designs and project manages WWF's priority forest landscape restoration initiatives. Working with the Senior Manager Land Clearing & Restoration, the position will take the lead on the developing and implementing holistic landscape restoration projects in NSW - Northern Rivers region, catalysing large-scale ecological restoration of forests and woodlands on cleared, degraded and burnt landscapes. As part of WWF's bushfire response and work to help protect the homes of koalas, the role is tasked with delivering on an exiting project to design and build a new wildlife hospital in partnership with local groups.

Skills, knowledge and experience

• A track record in developing & leading implementation of forest landscape restoration initiatives.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary stakeholder management, e.g. facilitating effective partnerships with farmers/graziers, landcare groups, Indigenous organisations, government land management & conservation agencies.
• A knowledge of and experience in forest/land carbon sequestration & abatement, and revegetation techniques.
• Environmental conservation project management skills ideally, the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation
• Well-developed networks across the conservation science community.
• Excellent interpersonal, written & verbal communications skills, with an ability to communicate research findings & technical concepts to scientific & lay audiences.

Ideally the successful candidate will have the following:

• Experience living/ working in land management, carbon farming or nature conservation in rural & regional communities.
• Familiarity with Australian Government's Emissions Reduction Fund, Queensland Land Restoration Fund or similar programs.
• Understanding of species conservation, including key threats & policy frameworks.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities in combining traditional knowledge & western science.
