About the role

CVC Natural Resource Management team currently have a vacancy for a trainee (identified position) dedicated to improving the biodiversity values of the Clarence Valley.  This role works within a team of 3 staff responsible for delivering on ground actions in Bush Regeneration such as weed control and habitat restoration works across the valley.  The main emphasis of work will be implementing our Vegetation Management Plans along our beautiful Clarence Coast reserves – you just need a willingness to learn and a passion for the environment, as well as an opportunity to be working on Country.

This is an Identified position, working as a Career Path Trainee with on the job training and the opportunity to progress into a Weed Control Operator position in Council.  

The role will involve:

  • undertaking hands-on weed control duties using herbicides and physical techniques
  • working in a team  and with volunteers in isolated bushland environments
  • undertaking tree planting and operating small equipment (brushcutters, chainsaws)
  • undertaking study on the job in Conservation and Land Management through TAFE

This position is located at Council's Townsend Depot, however, this may change should business needs identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future.

Following the period of the traineeship, the trainee may be considered for the permanent position of Weed Control Operator, subject to meeting the required eligibility criteria.

Council applies the definition of Aboriginality as defined in the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983. The Act requires a person to, be of Aboriginal decent, identify as an Aboriginal person and be accepted by the Aboriginal community in which he/she lives. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criterion.

Applicants can demonstrate their Aboriginality by:

  • demonstrating membership of a Local Aboriginal Land Council; or
  • presenting a certificate or paper confirming Aboriginality from a recognised Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community organisation with a common seal.

A probation period applies to this position.
