What you need to know...

  • temporary full time - 70 hours per fortnight
  • salary - $703.30 - $1,045.90 per week, plus superannuation

About the role

We’re looking for a highly motivated individual to join our busy and dynamic team. You’ll be able to live and work in the Clarence Valley where we have a work/life balance that is exactly as it should be – balanced.

Our Environment, Development and Strategic Planning Team is looking for an ambitious Trainee Environmental Health Officer to assist with a wide range of environmental and public health, enforcement, regulatory and administrative functions. As part of this Career Path Trainee role, Council will provide on the job training, cover all University fees and provide future opportunities as a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer. To be successful in the role you will need a passion for environmental health and a willingness to learn and help others.

The role will include:

  • Assisting in identifying key sustainability, environmental and public health issues for the community and Council.
  • Assisting with environmental and public health inspections to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation, guidelines and Council policies.
  • Assist in the delivery of Council’s food safety program.
  • Assist in the investigation and response to water, noise and air pollution incidents.
  • Acquire the skills, experience and qualifications necessary to join the Environmental Health profession.

Other important information

This position is located at Council's Maclean office, however, this may change should business needs identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future.

Trainees must be eligible to enrol in, or transfer to, the study program offered or an equivalent as approved by the Council.

Following the period of the traineeship, the trainee may be considered for the permanent position of Assistant Environmental Health Officer, subject to meeting the required eligibility criteria.

A probation period applies to this position.
