CSIRO’s Northern Cattle Production team are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the team. 

Are you finishing high school this year? Or do you have an interest in Agriculture and working with animals? We'd love to hear from you!  

As the Research Project Officer, you will contribute to research projects that are focused on delivering solutions for the livestock industry in relation to reducing methane emissions from cattle and improving productivity. You will mainly be working with cattle in pen and paddock environments and preparing feed and diet supplements along with maintaining and cleaning the animal facilities.

The position will be based at CSIRO Agriculture and Food’s Lansdown research station, in Woodstock, QLD, commencing in early 2024. 

Your duties will include:

• Under general supervision, perform routine animal handling or operational tasks requiring skills which have been developed through experience or training.
• Follow pre-determined protocols to achieve research objectives.
• Collect samples according to defined standards and ensure samples are stored and identified correctly.
• Identify and report anomalies.
• May assist in establishing experiments, monitor, summarise and record results and typically are required to maintain a record of experimental results.
• Other duties as required.

Location: Woodstock, QLD
Salary:  AU$51k – AU$65k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

1. Certificate of high school education and/or relevant work experience in livestock husbandry.
2. Demonstrated livestock experience; general husbandry, understanding animal behaviour, ability to identify sick or injured animals.
3. Demonstrated experience in general animal duties; feeding animals and cleaning of animal house facilities, preparation of diets and feed supplements.
4. Demonstrated ability for accurate record keeping
5. A current driver’s licence.
