The Environment Lead, Indigenous Science will play a key role in strengthening CSIRO’s Indigenous science and partnerships in priority areas relating to the business of CSIRO Environment and provide essential Indigenous cultural capability and strategic leadership to shape and deliver CSIRO Environment’s research agenda.

In this role, you will enhance CSIRO Environment’s capacity for Indigenous-led, co-designed and Indigenous science and will be responsible for identifying, brokering and developing strategic science and knowledge partnerships to create two-way knowledge-sharing and collaborative relationships with Indigenous Australia.

You will be able to recognise and pursue opportunities for innovation and generate new ways of seeing and solving complex problems and support CSIRO Environment to secure project funds.

Your duties will include:

  • Provide Indigenous knowledge, expertise and perspective to inform and direct how CSIRO Environment respectfully prioritises, develops and delivers its research agenda.
  • Strengthen CSIRO Environment’s capacity for Indigenous-led, co-developed and Indigenous science in respectful partnership with Indigenous Australia.
  • Collaborate with regionally dispersed teams of scientists across CSIRO, and broker relationships with external partners, to develop and scale a portfolio of Indigenous-led, co-developed, and Indigenous science driven by Indigenous priorities.
  • Provide advice to CSIRO Environment’s leadership team on strengthening internal governance arrangements for Indigenous science activities and contribute to the implementation of these strengthened arrangements.

Location: Townsville (Preferred), Brisbane, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart or Melbourne
Salary: Competitive Market Salary plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • Senior level research management, leadership and/or academic experience with relevant and practical experience in promoting and brokering Indigenous knowledges, perspectives or science in area/s relevant to CSIRO Environment’s business.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead and deliver research projects and a track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver research projects that have delivered impact and tangible outcomes for and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
