CSIRO Energy business unit is currently seeking a motivated Research Scientist to join our ‘Sustainable Carbon Technologies’ Group, and grow the scientific research around innovative carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technologies. You will work collaboratively and play a key role in meeting the needs of ongoing projects and increasing importance of CO2 capture & utilisation to contribute to a net-zero emission Australia.

This will be a great opportunity for you to collaborate with other experts from various government, industry & research organisations and leading universities, and also grow your knowledge & skills in the field!

Your duties will include:

  • Designing and building bench-scale electrochemical CO2-conversion systems to determine the performance of the identified concepts.
  • Liaising with clients to determine their needs and taking personal responsibility for client satisfaction.
  • Under limited direction, assisting in the planning & preparation of research proposals, and carrying out research investigations, requiring originality, creativity and innovation.
  • Undertaking regular reviews of relevant literature and patents.
  • Producing high quality scientific and/or engineering papers suitable for publication in quality journals, for client reports and granting of patents, as well presentation at conferences.
  • Drawing on professional expertise, knowledge of other disciplines and research experience, recognise opportunities for innovation and generating new theoretical perspectives by pursuing new ideas/approaches, and networking with scientific colleagues across a range of disciplines.

Salary: AU$102K to AU$111K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A PhD, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and qualifications, in Electro-chemistry or Electro-chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • In-depth understanding of and/or practical experience with electro-chemical CO2-conversion processes.
  • Strong laboratory skills, including the design and engineering of bench-scale experimental facilities.
  • Well-developed project management skills.
  • A proven track record of science innovation and creativity, and the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
