FSPs will see us grow the capability of new generation of researchers and allow Australia to attract the best experts to work with us on future science.  The Environomics FSP focusses on genomics for environmental science.  Environomics is a frontier science that brings together advances in DNA sequencing, evolutionary biology, big-data and environmental modelling. 

As the Science Portfolio Designer and Manager in Environmental Genomics with the Environomics FSP, you will have a pivotal role in the design and assembly of a new portfolio.  To identify technological opportunities in genomics, you will engage with both end-user sectors and technology experts, and develop transformative technology platforms to serve Australia’s natural resource management sector. Primarily you will assist with the selection of a new project portfolio and its implementation, and work with the Environomics FSP Director in a range of management, facilitation, and communication capacities to ensure its success.

Your duties will include:

  • Collecting and synthesising information on market demand for data that supports natural resource management.
  • Collecting and synthesising information on technological opportunities in environmental genomics.
  • Anticipating, identifying and adapting quickly to changes in client needs and market changes.
  • Facilitating idea-generating activities that include both CSIRO staff and external stakeholders.
  • Carrying out commercial development activities (with the BD team), contributing to project proposals and facilitating the initiation of new projects.
  • Coordinating calls for project submissions and managing the selection process.
  • Designing and implementing a program of science cross-pollination activities and promoting the uptake of technology platforms.
  • Promoting CSIRO’s capability in external forums and advising policy makers. 


Location:  Crawley (Perth) WA or Black Mountain (Canberra) ACT (other locations may be considered by negotiation)
Salary: AU$115k - AU$135k per annum, plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A doctorate or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline area, together with relevant practical experience, or, managerial and/or commercial qualifications and significant experience and depth of understanding of relevant science either from a research or industry perspective.
  • A record of innovation and creativity in achieving science or commercial objectives.
  • High level communication skills with the ability to represent science concepts to both professional and public audiences.
  • Experience in the synthesis of information from diverse sources to elucidate trends and opportunities.
  • Experience in the elicitation of ideas by facilitating discussion in multi-party forums.
  • A history of professional behaviours as part of a research team, plus the motivation and discipline to work autonomously.
  • The ability to deal with ambiguity and situations that lack clarity.
