The role of Quantitative Sustainability Scientist is an exciting opportunity to boost the development and application of agriculture sustainability assessment frameworks within CSIRO’s Climate Smart Agriculture research group.

The successful candidate will focus on life-cycle assessment and natural capital accounting, and contribute to the development of tools and metrics to support industry in benchmarking and monitoring of sustainability performance. The role will be embedded in a well-connected group of experts in fields ranging from soil science and agriculture simulation models to change management and nutrition, offering many opportunities to develop new expertise.

Your duties will include:

  • Contribute to the development of agriculture sustainability assessment tools and approaches, working with industry and commercial stakeholders to ensure effective outcomes and adoption.  
  • Provide leadership in data management and analysis as part of project teams working on agriculture sustainability, using life cycle assessment and related frameworks such as greenhouse gas accounting and natural capital accounting.

Location: Black Mountain, Canberra, ACT (preferred) or St Lucia, Brisbane, QLD (considered) 
Salary: AU$98k - AU$106k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A relevant doctorate or equivalent experience with demonstrated post-graduate research or industry experience in environmental science, industrial ecology or sustainable agriculture.
  • Expertise and credentials in life cycle assessments and other quantitative sustainability assessment frameworks, including understanding of environmental pressures and impacts.
  • Demonstrated experience with general data handling, data analysis and development of tools and models.
  • A history of publication in peer reviewed journals and/or authorship of other technical papers, reports, grant applications or patents.
  • The ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, and carry out independent individual research with critical reflection, to achieve organisational goals.
