Research Projects Officer Tropical Cotton / Grains Cropping Systems

The Position: 
CSIRO Agriculture and Food is seeking a motivated, flexible and adaptable person to support the evaluation of new cotton/grain/forage farming systems in tropical Australia.  Much of the work involved in this role will be determined by the weather, the growth of the crop and when the farmer collaborators are available and will include frequent field trips to relatively remote locations mainly in north-west Queensland.

Your duties will include:

  • Contributing to the design and planning of field experiments and observational work involving irrigated cotton, grain crops and forages during the tropical wet and dry seasons.
  • Implementing the field experiments and observational work including taking measurements and performing general experiment management.
  • Setting up and using relevant agricultural machinery and data measurement equipment used at the various research sites.
  • Collating and organising collected data.

Location: Townsville, Qld
Salary: $61k to $78k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified term to November 2020

To be successful you will have:

  • Relevant Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in the conduct of agricultural field experiments.
  • Experience in data collection, collation and management of agricultural field experiments.
  • Experience in the use and maintenance of scientific equipment used in agricultural field experiments.
  • The ability to work outside in hot and humid weather conditions.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, and carry out tasks under general direction from Scientific Researchers.
