We now have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Aquaculture (Nutrition), within the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies at James Cook University (JCU). A fixed-term appointment, this role is based at the Townsville campus in picturesque tropical North Queensland.
Our Division
The Division of Tropical Environments and Societies recognises the grand challenges facing the world today and the particular role that will be played out in the tropics. Here more than anywhere else environments and societies will see dramatic change in population growth, loss of biodiversity, and an apparent need for food production and security.
Through its four Colleges, the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies is internationally recognised for its world ranking in marine biology, aquaculture, tourism and climate change and is uniquely positioned to deliver excellence across teaching and learning and research in these areas.
Your Role
Working within the College of Marine and Environmental Sciences you will be at the forefront of the fastest growing food production sector globally. The tropics will play an important role in the development of aquaculture where farming of such species as tilapia, barramundi, marine shrimp, catfish and oysters offers significant economic opportunities.
As an accomplished professional in your field, you will strengthen the discipline of Aquaculture at JCU by teaching undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programmes, including subject coordination activities and assessment, conducting tutorials, practical classes, student field trips and on-line teaching.
You will have a PhD in Aquaculture, or related scientific discipline, and be able to demonstrate a substantial publication record relative to your career stage coupled with the ability to establish and maintain effective relations with colleagues in an academic environment and with people from diverse backgrounds. You also will have experience in aquaculture nutrition research.
Key to your success will be your ability to develop and conduct independent research relevant to your own area of strength together with the potential to attract research funding in order to contribute to the strong research culture of the College.
