Science & Engineering Careers in the Tropics

The College of Science, Technology and Engineering (CTSE) at James Cook University seeks to strengthen its Science and Engineering programmes in areas of strategic importance to tropical north Queensland and the tropics more broadly through the appointment of seven new positions, and the establishment of a new Engineering major in Electronic Systems & the Internet of Things on our Cairns campus.

Northern Australia and tropical regions around the world are undergoing rapid development and growth, with competing demands on limited natural resources. The challenges and opportunities facing the sustainable use of these resources in support of economic development will require innovative, holistic approaches that are based on world-class science using the latest technologies and advances in engineering.

CSTE intends to build on its considerable international reputation, to develop more capacity in areas related to Energy; Natural Resources & Water; Natural Hazards & Mitigation and Sustainable Development.

We are seeking Academic Leaders who are accomplished Engineers and Scientists with excellent industry connections and a proven track record of publishing research, attracting research funding, supervising students and teaching in relevant disciplines.

The below positions are advertised for an October 2015 or January 2016 start.

• Associate Professor/Professor, Civil Engineering; Extreme events and/or coastal Engineering

• Associate Professor/Professor, Mechanical Engineering; Energy systems

• Associate Professor/Professor, Electrical Engineering; Control systems and/or Communication

• Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, Electrical Engineering; Control systems and/or Communication

• Associate Professor/Professor, Applied Mathematics; Big data and/or Modelling

Positions located in Cairns

• Associate Professor/Professor; Electrical Systems & Internet of Things Engineering

• Lecturer; Electrical Systems & Internet of Things Engineering


Position Highlights:
All positions are full-time, continuing positions. An attractive remuneration package will be offered including a generous superannuation scheme with 17% employer contributions; 5 weeks annual leave; leave loading and attractive options for salary packaging.
