The Regional Illegal Dumping (RID) Squad is a joint program between the Environment Protection Authority and local Councils within the Hunter-Central Coast Region. The overall aim is to reduce the incidence of illegal dumping.

Regional Illegal Dumping Squad Investigator – Full time, Term Contract to June 2017

A unique opportunity exists for a highly experienced investigator with exceptional negotiation, communication and conflict resolution skills to join Lake Macquarie City Council in a secondment arrangement where you will be physically located between Muswellbrook Shire Council and Singleton Council.

You will primarily undertake compliance activities investigating incidents of illegal dumping within the Muswellbrook and Singleton Local Government Areas. As part of a regional team, you will also be involved in operations, public education and promotional activities across the Hunter-Central Coast region.

Reporting to the RID Squad Project Officer, this position will:

  • Investigate incidents of illegal dumping, primarily within the Muswellbrook and Singleton Local Government Areas;
  • Conduct verbal, written and electronic interviews of witnesses and persons of interest
  • Conduct overt patrols and covert surveillance of dumping sites
  • Prepare statements, fact sheets and briefs of evidence for Court
  • Attend and present evidence in Court as necessary
  • Assist in the delivery of community education programs

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in policing, investigations, environmental law or equivalent and/or extremely high level compliance/enforcement experience;
  • Demonstrated high level experience in investigations, brief preparation and the presentation of evidence at Court
  • Demonstrated high level negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Class C Drivers Licence or higher

Salary: $65,194 - $70,184 per annum plus superannuation
