The School of Earth Sciences is a thriving teaching and research group that includes 44 teaching and research staff. The School offers the undergraduate Major in Geological Sciences, Honours in Geology, Geophysics, and Computational Earth Sciences, and a comprehensive postgraduate program in all areas of Earth Sciences. The School has research strengths in mineral and energy resources, isotope geochemistry and geochronology, structural geology and tectonics, geomicrobiology, igneous petrology, palaeontology, geodynamics, modelling and computational earth sciences, exploration geophysics, hydrogeology, and environmental geochemistry, which are directly linked to the university's top research strengths in Mining and Minerals Processing and Ecology and Environmental Science. The School has an active and expanding internationalisation program, with collaborations with some of the top North and South American, European and Asian institutions.

The role: The School of Earth Sciences is undergoing a major expansion of its teaching and research programs through the hiring of several early career academics with strong interests and capabilities in a variety of fields of Earth Sciences, including Geochemistry and Geochronology. Candidates in the Geochemistry and Geochronology position should be interested in the application of major and trace geochemistry and isotope geosciences to solving significant earth and planetary problems. The successful candidate will benefit from access to state-of-the-art mineral preparation, geochemical, and isotopic facilities in the School of Earth Sciences. The candidate will also benefit from the strong link between the School and other Australian isotope facilities through TANG3O (Thermochronology and Noble Gas Geochemistry and Geochronology Organization).

The person: Applicants should possess a PhD qualification in the areas of Geochemistry and Geochronology, preferably with an emerging or established track record of research in these areas. You should also have demonstrated expert knowledge in one of the following areas: Major and trace element geochemistry; Isotope geochemistry; or Geochronology.

Remuneration: The remuneration package will be in the range AUD$76,874 – $82,510 p.a., (Academic Level A); AUD$86,853 – $103,138 p.a. (Academic Level B); and AUD$106,395 – $122,679 p.a. (Academic Level C); plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range AUD$89,931 – $96,536 p.a. (Academic Level A); AUD$101,618 – $120,671 p.a. (Academic Level B); and AUD$124,482 – $143,535 p.a. (Academic Level C)). These are full-time, continuing appointments at Academic Level A, Academic Level B or Academic Level C.
