Darebin Council was the first Council to declare a Climate Emergency in 2016. The Coordinator Climate Emergency and Environmental Programs is a leadership role that contributes to and promotes action on the Climate Emergency and environmental sustainability within Council operations and across the municipality through delivering services and environmental programs.

The Coordinator Climate Emergency and Environmental Programs manages a team of multi-disciplinary staff that deliver Council’s community facing programs and partnerships that address the climate emergency, minimise waste, promote local food production and preserve and improve the municipalities’ environmental biodiversity and waterways. The successful applicant will possess:
• An understanding of what the climate emergency means in the context of local government.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be able to establish and maintain sound effective working relationships residents, stakeholder organisations, the community and effectively communicate complex issues
• Demonstrated expertise and experience in managing complex community facing projects or programs, ensuring delivery is on time, within budget and quality expectations.
