Groundwater Resources for Mining - PhD Research Opportunities

The National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT), Flinders University and Rio Tinto are currently seeking exceptional candidates for two PhD opportunities. The projects will form part of a larger study of the groundwater resources of the Pilbara region, northwestern Australia. This study is examining mechanisms and rates of groundwater recharge, groundwater flow and residence time, interaction of groundwater with ephemeral rivers and other ecosystems, and change to the groundwater resources as a result of mining operations. The project is partly funded by the Australian Research Council. Successful candidates will be based either in Adelaide or Perth. Tax free scholarships of up to $37,000 per year are available, together with generous project support.

The successful applicants will join a dynamic research environment within the NCGRT, which is Australia’s leading groundwater research and training institution. NCGRT partners include all of the key federal and state water management agencies and 14 Australian universities.

Candidates with backgrounds in a range of science and engineering disciplines are encouraged to apply.  Your academic record will be outstanding and you must have an honours degree (or equivalent).
