Team Leader Environmental Health

  • Temporary, full-time position
  • Salary range $80,725 to 87,664 per annum, plus 9.5% superannuation

The City of Ballarat requires a dynamic professional to join the Environmental Health team to work towards ensuring the community and environment are maintained in a healthy and sustainable manner.

The role is offered on a fixed term basis without the option for extension to cover the current incumbent’s absence, providing an ideal opportunity for experienced Environmental Health Officers to make the transition to a leadership position in Local Government.  Reporting to the Manager Environmental Health, this is an opportunity to develop your leadership skills in a structured and supportive environment.

In the role of Team Leader Environmental Health, you will provide a professional service to maximise environmental health outcomes through community consultation, education, inspection and monitoring. You will be required to conduct briefings, manage section resources, implement and conduct public health awareness programs, investigate complaints, assess applications, facilitate training and provide professional advice.

You will be tertiary qualified in Environmental Health, eligible for membership with Environmental Health Australia and have well-developed skills in customer service, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making and communication.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor of Health Science or equivalent qualifications acceptable for membership of Environmental Health Australia with extensive experience in an EH role.
  • Excellent verbal communications skills and well developed conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be able to lead and mentor team members to achieve results.
  • An ability to be innovative in the delivery of environmental health programs.
  • Have a sound understanding of emergency management principles in relation to EH and be prepared to work on the after-hours roster.
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence.
  • Well-developed written communication skills with demonstrated experience in the preparation of Council reports, procedures and legal proceedings.
  • Sound knowledge of budgeting processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and monitor adherence to health and safety policies and procedures within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and training relevant to work activities or work area.
  • Knowledge of health and safety hazard management and appropriate controls relevant to work activities and work area
