Environment Manager - Ops & Project Execution (Mat Leave Cover) | CSG Industry

Arrow Energy is an integrated coal seam gas (CSG) company that explores and develops gas fields, produces and sells CSG and generates electricity.


Arrow produces CSG from fields in the Surat Basin in southern Queensland and the Bowen Basin in central Queensland. We have been safely and sustainably developing CSG since 2000 and supplying it commercially since 2004.

We own one of Queenslands largest power stations, Braemar 2 near Dalby, and we have interests in two others, giving us enough generation capacity to power around 800,000 homes. Arrow is owned by a joint venture company between Shell and PetroChina.

Reporting to the Project Environment Manager, you will provide technical advice and direction to business project teams on offsets throughout the business to ensure company compliance. This will include the development, management and assurance of biodiversity offset related documents and processes.

In addition you will:
  • Actively support and conduct activities in accordance with company HSE procedures, policies and guidelines;
  • Support the business to develop, deliver and manage project biodiversity offset solutions to meet federal and state government offset obligations;
  • Interpret ecology reports and calculate land based offset cost estimations for project planning.
  • Work collaboratively with Ecology and GIS teams to prepare for biodiversity offsets from the front end approval through to impact and project delivery stage and securing of land based offset properties.
  • Organise the preparation, approval and monitoring of offset management plans for the delivery of biodiversity offset properties.
  • Reconcile Offset impacts against Offset properties for all projects and maintain a biodiversity offset tracking system with GIS support.
  • Prepare and submit the EPBC annual compliance report within timeframes for all properties.
To be successful in the role, you will have: 
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Environment, Science, or Conservation Land Management
  • Regional Ecosystem & BioCondition Training is highly regarded
  • Proven experience working in an environmental management role (ecology and/or land management) within the resources industry
  • Demonstrated ecology related experience including experience with biodiversity offsets such as calculation of land based offsets, land and vegetation classification and BioCondition scoring is preferred.
  • Technical understanding of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC) EPBC Regulations 2000 and Queensland Environmental Offsets policy and Environmental Offsets Act 2014 is desirable
  • Proven experience developing and managing a process for sourcing, securing and tracking biodiversity offsets.
  • Coal Seam Gas industry experience.
