The Role:

The Senior Adviser Site Contamination (Senior Adviser) is a key senior professional in the Environment Protection Authority’s Site Contamination Branch. The Senior Adviser is a highly experienced site contamination specialist, who is an independent thinker and works with limited direction.

The Senior Adviser is responsible for the provision of professional advice in relation to site contamination, delivery of government funded site contamination assessment projects, and the provision of leadership and advice on issues relating to site contamination and associated statutory requirements under the Environment Protection Act 1993.

Key Outcomes of the Role:

  • Contribute to the attainment of Environment Protection Authority objectives in relation to the protection, restoration and enhancement of the environment with regard to site contamination
  • Provide expert and independent specialist advice in relation to complex issues relating to the assessment and remediation of site contamination
  • Deliver government funded site contamination assessment projects to a quality that is acceptable to the EPA and the community
  • Contribute to development, review and improvement of methodologies and supporting documentation and policies, either as document author, coordinator or contributor
  • Contribute to the enforcement of the Environment Protection Act as an Authorised Officer

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical information in relation to site contamination to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Proven knowledge and experience in the assessment and remediation of complex site contamination matters, including the preparation of and review of reports
  • Proven ability to think independently and work with limited direction
  • Proven ability to effectively manage workload across a number of competing priorities and to use initiative to complete projects and work programs within required deadlines
  • Proven ability to be able to undertake vapour intrusion assessment, and prepare and review vapour and human health risk assessments in accordance with the National Environment Protection (Assessment of Site Contamination) Measure, 1999 (as amended in 2013) and EPA Guidelines
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the EP Act and the EPA Guidelines that relate to site contamination
  • Proven ability to project manage, scope and procure site contamination assessment projects
  • Proven ability to consult, liaise, negotiate, develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of people at all levels, in particular, team leader/manager
  • Proven ability to effectively review the work of other team members and to encourage and facilitate excellence from colleagues, as well as mentor other professionals
  • Ability to manage conflict and high pressure situations

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in science, engineering or other recognised degree level qualification that is related to site contamination.
