Manager - Public Health and Environment 

 

The Position

Are you passionate about Public Health and Community Safety? Council currently has an exciting opportunity in their Environment and Sustainability directorate. As the Manager – Public Health and Environment you will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of Council’s Public Health and Environment, Ranger and Cemetery Services throughout the Snowy Monaro Region in accordance with legislative requirements and the objectives as set out in Council’s Community Strategic Plan and Delivery and Operational Plans.

Selection Criteria

Essential –

  • Degree in Environmental Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent
  • Experience in the management of a specialised workforce with accountability for budgetary implications, staff and other resources
  • Demonstrated understanding of, or experience in Local Government
  • Extensive practical experience (min 5 years) working within the Environmental Health field, in particular, experience in food premise surveillance, on-site sewage management programs, skin penetration, public swimming pools, and drinking water supply monitoring
  • Extensive experience as an authorised officer under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act undertaking investigations and regulatory action, in particular, experience in noise, unlawful dumping of waste and pollution to waters
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation including but not limited to Public Health Act, Food Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Local Government Act, Companion Animals and Cemeteries and Crematoria Act, National Construction Code (Building Code of Australia)
  • Current valid Class C Drivers Licence

Desirable –

  • Experience in the delivering and management of Ranger services including parking, impounding of articles and animals (including stock) and companion animal management
  • Experience in the management of Council managed cemeteries including administration, operation and maintenance
  • Four wheel drive certification, or the ability to acquire
  • Experience in the use of Corporate Software systems


Salary Details
Annual Salary $90,389 + 9.5% Super – 70 hours per fortnight – Leaseback Vehicle included
