Position: Environmental & Conservation Team Supervisor 

Location: 350 Old Maryborough Rd, Araluen, Gympie

Weekly Ordinary Hours: 26-38 hours per week 

Reports to: Environment Conservation Manager

Award: Gardening & Landscaping Award 2020

Pay Level: Level 3 (weekend work may be required) plus any entitlements as defined in the award related to your role). 

Contract Type:  Casual

Join our tightknit team aiming to inspire and support environmental regeneration in the Gympie region. The Gympie District Landcare Group (GDLG) is currently seeking a person who is passionate about environmental work, enjoys working outdoors and is experienced in leading high performing teams

 

Our Business

GDLG is a community-based ‘profit for purpose’ organisation based in Gympie.
In keeping with our purpose of regenerating environment through community engagement, our business is currently focused on four key business areas:

  • A first class regional native plant nursery;
  • Cutting edge biological services for environmental and soil regeneration including raising bio-control insects;
  • Environmental and conservation services for landowners and managers;
  • Community education and fostering community-based environmental activities.

 

Key accountabilities:

  • Bushland and farm regeneration, watering and maintenance.
  • Riparian restoration, revegetation, regeneration, and vegetation maintenance.
  • Weed maintenance including herbicide use.
  • Implement and oversee organisation on-ground WHS practices.
  • Ensure teams complete required documentation on a daily basis.
  • Supervise and develop staff to meet the operational needs of the department.
  • Training/coaching of bush regeneration team.
  • Equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Delegate responsibilities and tasks to the bush regeneration team.
  • Researching and interpreting on-ground information.
  • Stay abreast of all new and best practices in the field of land management and regeneration as it pertains to projects.
  • Ensure vehicles are fully equipped for each project on a daily basis.
  • Ensure proper end of day procedures are adhered to.
  • Effectively provide direction on project requirements to the bush regeneration team.
  • Monitoring of employee productivity and provide constructive feedback.
  • Attend initial project overview discussions with the manager.
  • Meet project deadlines as directed by the manager

This role is a 26-38 hour per week opportunity with an hourly casual rate of $35-$38 per hour with the view to making the role full time as the organisation secures more work. The Environmental Conservation Team Supervisor should have a proven background in the supervision of teams, a practical working knowledge of good environmental outcomes, safety, a passion for customer service, and preferably with a practical working knowledge of regenerative land care practices.

This person would work closely with the manager to ensure project outcomes are achieved. This role will be responsible for supervising permanent and casual staff, including trainees. The successful candidate will ideally be reliable, passionate about caring for the land and customers, and be an enthusiastic self-starter who is willing to work with our team to meet the financial, social, and environmental objectives of GDLG. This person will have initiative and be open to sharing their practical skills and experiences with a broad range of people.
