Employer: Gympie & District Landare Group 

Position: Bush Regenerator 

Location: 350 Old Maryborough Rd, Araluen, Gympie

Weekly Ordinary Hours: 26-38 hours per week 

Reports to: Environment Conservation Supevisor 

Award: Gardening & Landscaping Award 2020

Pay Level: Level 2 (weekend work may be required) plus any entitlements as defined in the award related to your role). 

Contract Type:  Casual

Salary Payment Frequency: Fortnightly 

Our Organisation

Gympie and District Landcare Group (GDLG) is a community-based organisation that has been active for 30 years serving the local landowners. The Group is an incorporated association and a registered charity. Each year members elect an Executive (Management Committee) that sets strategic direction, manages organisation risks, fine tunes policies and ensures that the organisation is operating effectively whilst staying true to its vision and purpose.

Members and volunteers are integrally involved in the group’s activities: operating a local native plant nursery; providing biological services raising insects for invasive plant species control and other purposes; providing land care services, fostering local land caring activities; and community education.

Purpose of Position

The purpose of this role is to take direction from the Environmental Conservation Project Supervisor in relation to project outcomes and carry out project works, including bushland regeneration, riparian restoration, invasive species control, and revegetation.

Person

This person will be able to implement project objectives as directed. Work well with others in a team environment, have a passion for land caring activities as it pertains to revegetation, and caring for the environment. This person will have initiative, be passionate about environmental conservation, and show ambition in everything they do to achieve the best possible results for our clients.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Bushland and farm regeneration, watering, and maintenance.
  • Riparian restoration, revegetation, regeneration, and vegetation maintenance.
  • Weed maintenance including herbicide use.
  • Adhere to organisation WHS practices.
  • Complete required project documentation on a daily basis.
  • Willingly participate in ongoing training and coaching sessions.
  • Equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Continue to develop a working knowledge of native plants and their suitability.
  • Stay abreast of all new and best practice in the field of land management and regeneration as it pertains to projects.
  • Ensure vehicles are fully equipped for each project on a daily basis.
  • Carry out proper end of day procedures as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Meet project deadlines as directed by the Supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Minimum Certificate II in Conservation & Land Management (we strongly encourage applicants to apply with other relevant qualifications and/or similar field experience willing to upskill in their own time)
  • Chainsaw ticket or extensive experience handling chainsaws (or applicants with experience willing to acquire accreditation)
  • Construction White Card.
  • ACDC Licence (or applicants with experience willing to acquire accreditation)
  • First Aid Licence (current).
  • Excellent Teamwork skills.
  • A working knowledge of regenerative land care practices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative in routine tasks.
  • Have a passion for environmental conservation.
  • Learning capability.

Desirable

  • Manual Drivers License
  • Experience in working in community-based organisations.

This position is a fieldwork position. At times, it may be physically demanding and requires a person who is fit, energetic, and flexible.
